Commonwealth Broadcasting Association
The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA) is the leading association for public service broadcasting across the Commonwealth and beyond. The CBA has over 100 members from the leading broadcasting agencies from 53 countries including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Jamaican Broadcasting Commission, Nigerian Television Authority, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and the BBC in the UK.
New Media Networks has been working with the CBA on 3 major initiatives;
Direction and development of WorldView: Launched in 2001, and supported by the UK Department for International Development, WorldView works directly with commissioners within the UK major broadcasting agencies and supports producers with 'Seed' funding who aim to bring the richness and diversity of the wider-world to UK audiences.
New Media Networks is helping to develop WorldView's new strands i.e. drama, 'faction' and other genres. Working with the CBA team and Effusion, New Media Networks led the strategic design, creative development and launch of YourWorldView, an online space for new and emerging film-makers and people from around the world to join in a new and fresh discussion about the portrayal of international issues: http://www.yourworldview.org.uk
New Media Networks is helping the CBA to build relationships and support for production for world class creative and craft talent from across the globe by utilising the CBA’s UK’s experience of WorldView.
This led to the creation of 'CBA: Live in Nairobi'
New Media Networks devised, and directed a major event for Nairobi June and July - a lively combination of workshops, master-classes, technical demonstrations, screenings and discussion with the media industries from Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa,Tanzania and Uganda to explore digital migration and what this means for East Africa. Sessions were led by international broadcasters, trainers, media experts and audience research expertise from Intermedia Africa. New Media Networks ensured the event was documented and captured using audio visual means for further learning and exploitation.
CBACultures+
New Media Networks researched, jointly created and led the production of a strategic professional development plan with members of the CBA (broadcasters, media houses and associations of journalists) in the Caribbean, East Africa and the Pacific Islands, producing a two-year trans-national development strategy for the three regions taking into account their diversity and common interests for a digital age. CBACultures+ has social development, critical understanding, creative practice and cultural understanding as its key cornerstones.
